In Fall and Winter this mixture gets carried around in my purse in a spice bottle for breakfast when travelling or on the run.  It builds Agni (digestive fire) and improves digestion.  It complements oatmeal or any hot cereal as well as fresh fruit. 

  • 1 TBSP ground cinnamon
  • 1TBSP ground cardamom
  • 1TBSP ground allspice
  • 1TBSP ground ginger*
  • ½ tsp ground cloves

These can be mixed in whole dried form and ground together in a spice grinder or mixed together in a bowl – freshly ground is the most potent and flavorful.  Using a funnel, pour into a spice bottle with a shaker top. 

*Ayurvedic adjustments

Pitta (people with reddish complexion or problems with gastric reflux) – If coffee with milk is enjoyed with breakfast, make sure to use about half of the ginger.  For black coffee drinkers, omitting ginger is okay especially if reflux is acting up.
